Everything you need to know about moving with Wato Movement in Kampala, Uganda.
What is Wato Movement?
Wato Movement is a dance fitness and women’s wellness space based in Kampala, Uganda. Founded on International Women’s Day 2024, we create movement experiences designed specifically for women: honouring their bodies, their cycles, and their wellbeing.
We are not a traditional gym or fitness studio. We are a community-centred space where women come to move in healing, joy and sisterhood. Through dance fitness, breathwork and nervous system regulation, we help women reconnect with their bodies in ways that feel intuitive, culturally familiar and biologically respectful.
Wato Movement is the movement arm of Wellness With Her Club; a women’s wellness community rooted in holistic wellbeing.

Who are Wato Movement sessions for?
Our sessions are designed for women of all fitness levels and backgrounds. You do not need to be fit, experienced or at a particular stage of your wellness journey to join us.
Wato Movement is for you if:

- You are returning to movement after illness, childbirth, burnout or a long break
- You are a busy professional or entrepreneur looking for a space to move, breathe and decompress
- You have felt unseen or unwelcome in mainstream fitness spaces
- You want movement that honours your body’s natural rhythms rather than fighting against them
- You are looking for a women’s wellness community in Kampala that goes beyond exercise
- If you are a woman who wants to move, you belong here.

What is Wellness With Her Club?
Wellness With Her Club is the parent organisation behind Wato Movement. It is a women’s wellness community that approaches wellbeing holistically: not just physical fitness, but mental, emotional, social and financial wellness.
The belief at the heart of Wellness With Her Club is simple: wellness is not something we do for women. It is something we build with them. That is why we shifted from “Wellness for Her” to “Wellness With Her” because no one thrives alone.
Wato Movement is the embodied, physical expression of that vision; the space where the philosophy becomes lived experience through movement, rhythm and community.
When you join a Wato Movement session, you are joining the wider Wellness With Her Club community of women who are choosing themselves, together.

How is Wato Movement different from a regular gym?
Most gyms were designed without women’s bodies truly in mind. They are built around a model of constant intensity, daily output and pushing through regardless of how you feel; a model that often leaves women exhausted, disconnected from their bodies and quietly ashamed when they cannot keep up.
Wato Movement is different in three fundamental ways:
We are cycle aware. We understand that women’s bodies change throughout the monthly cycle; in energy, strength, mood and capacity. Our sessions are designed to work with those changes, not against them. Some days we rise. Some days we restore. Both are Wato.
We are community centred. This is not a transactional fitness space. The women who move with us show up for each other. We build with women, not just for them.
We are culturally rooted. Our movement draws from African dance traditions and feels familiar, joyful and human; not like a performance or a punishment.
A gym gives you equipment. Wato Movement gives you a space to come home to yourself.
What is cycle aware movement?
Cycle aware movement is the practice of designing physical activity around the natural rhythms of the female menstrual cycle rather than expecting the same output every single day regardless of hormonal phase.
Our bodies as women, move through four phases each month:
Menstrual phase (Days 1–5): Energy is low and the body is inward. Gentle, restorative movement is most supportive;our Flow & Whine sessions are ideal.
Follicular phase (Days 6–13): Energy is rising and the body is open to learning. This is a great time for more dynamic movement and learning new routines.
Ovulatory phase (Days 14–17): Peak energy. The body is strong, social and expressive. Our Cardio & Whine sessions align perfectly with this phase.
Luteal phase (Days 18–28): Energy begins to drop. The body asks for gentler, more grounding movement. Flow & Whine and extended breathwork support this phase beautifully.
At Wato Movement, we do not expect you to perform at the same level every week. We ask you to check in with your body and honour what it needs. That is cycle aware movement in practice.
Do I need experience to join Wato Movement?
No experience is needed. At all.
Wato Movement is designed to be accessible to every woman regardless of fitness level, dance experience or wellness background. Our facilitators are trained to offer modifications throughout every session so you can always find the version of the movement that works for your body today.
Many of our most committed community members came to us having never tried dance fitness before. What matters is not where you start; it is that you start.
If you can breathe, you can move with us.

What are your session times?
Our regular weekly sessions are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 6:00PM
Private sessions are available by appointment.
Session times and availability are updated regularly. To confirm current session times or to book a private session, contact us directly via Instagram @WatoMovement or through the contact form on this page.
Do you offer corporate wellness sessions?
Yes and this is one of the areas we are most passionate about.

Wato Movement offers movement experiences designed for workplaces, organisations, institutions and events across Kampala. Our corporate sessions bring intentional, accessible movement into professional spaces; boardrooms, offices, staff days, team building events and conferences.
We believe movement belongs everywhere; not just in studios and gyms. When employees and teams move together with intention, the energy in the room shifts. Conversations become more open. Connections become more genuine. People show up more fully; for their teams, their clients and themselves.
Our corporate wellness offerings include:
∙ Movement icebreakers for events and conferences (15–30 minutes)
∙ Staff wellness sessions for organisations and institutions (30–60 minutes)
∙ Team building experiences rooted in embodied wellness
∙ Ongoing workplace wellness programmes tailored to your organisation
Sessions are adapted to your space, your team size and your objectives. No activewear required. No fitness experience needed. Just intentional movement that meets your people exactly where they are.
